Description
The Pontwalby Railway Viaduct is a railway viaduct constructed from squared sandstone blocks featuring tooled angles and voussoirs. It has five broad round arches supported by large cut stone voussoirs and red brick soffits, carried on massive tapering piers that rise over 18 meters high. Each pier is divided along the axis of the viaduct by a tall arched opening with stone voussoirs. There is a bull-nosed string course beneath the parapet, topped with flat stone coping. The fifth arch on the southwest side has been blocked with stone, featuring a large open roundel in the stonework surrounded by brick.
