Description
The Milepost at Tollgate Park is an ornate cast iron structure, painted white with black lettering and detail. It features a square base that supports a rear upright topped with a pointed arched head, which includes mouldings, imposts, and a keystone. In front of the base is a low domed section with a round-headed front face, above which are two tall faces with pointed arched heads, each set at a 45-degree angle. The arches are adorned with raised mouldings.
The rear arch of the milepost displays the inscription 'Bridgend District'. The angled faces point in opposite directions, with one side reading 'To Pyle 4' and the other 'To Neath 8'. Beneath the round arch, the lettering reads 'London 187'. The square base has a raised border that features the words 'Margam Parish' in relief. Additionally, a raised tablet at the bottom, which is unpainted, indicates the year '1841'.
