Description
This is an ornate cast iron milepost located near Cae Garw, dating from 1841. It is painted white with black lettering and detail. The milepost features a square base that supports a rear upright with a pointed arched head, complete with mouldings, imposts, and a keystone. In front of the base, there is a low domed section with a round-headed front face, above which are two tall faces with pointed arched heads, each set at a 45-degree angle. The arches are adorned with raised mouldings.
The rear arch displays the inscription 'Bridgend District'. The angled faces indicate directions, with one reading 'To Pyle 1' and the other 'To Neath 11'. Beneath the round arch, the lettering 'London 184' is present. The square base features a raised border that includes the words 'Margam Parish' in relief. A raised tablet at the bottom of the milepost reads '1841'.
