Description
Beulah Calvinistic Methodist Chapel is an octagonal chapel built of coursed sandstone, featuring a hipped slate roof. The exterior is adorned with ashlar angle pilasters that rise to a prominent Lombard cornice with false machicolations. The roof has projecting eaves and is topped with a bell cupola that includes a tall finial. The entrance, located on the west side, is framed by a round voussoir head and features planked double doors with a matching tympanum. Above the doorway is an oval stone tablet that reads: 'Beulah Calvinistic Methodist Chapel Built at Groes 1838, Dismantled and rebuilt on this site 1976.' Each of the other bays contains a pair of tall round-headed lights with voussoirs that rise from shared imposts and are fitted with horizontal wooden glazing bars. There is also an oculus at a high level on each side.
Inside, the small entrance bay has a tiled floor. Double panelled half-lit doors lead into the main chapel, while a panelled door to the right provides access to the straight gallery stair. The gallery is supported by two cast iron columns with ringed capitals and features a straight wood-panelled front that includes a clock at the center, along with a moulded handrail. It contains five tiers of pews arranged with a central aisle. Attached to the rear wall is a stone tablet, likely the original, which reads 'Beulah / Calvinistic Church / 1838'. At the opposite end of the chapel is a wooden pulpit with small recessed panels and a chamfered projecting front. The seating consists of three banks of pews with aisles that converge towards the pulpit, and the pews have decorated bench ends. The ceiling features high moulded coving and an ornate plaster ceiling rose with foliate decoration.
