Description

The Fountain in Honour of John Hopkin Davies is a granite water fountain featuring a bronze sculpture, erected in July 1910. It is supported by two square, slightly tapering piers with moulded bases and Tuscan-style capitals adorned with dentils. Above the piers, a lintel with a round arched head has a pronounced hollow moulding on its underside.

The front of the fountain features a stone panel beneath the arch, which displays a bronze bust of John Hopkin Davies in the upper half. To the left side of the bust, there is a relief inscription that reads 'John Hopkin Davies 1910'. Below this, a semi-circular water trough with a wide rim and base extends from the pier bases.

On the rear side of the stone panel beneath the arch, an inscription commemorates Davies: 'This fountain erected to John Hopkin Davies, M D, J P, of Tir Caradoc, Port Talbot, by his many grateful friends and admirers, amongst whom he laboured with unfailing kindness for many years, July 1910'. Below this inscription, a bronze fountain spout is designed in the form of two stylised ram's heads, with a plain semi-circular trough positioned below. The entire structure is set on a platform that is one course high, featuring central semi-circular projections at both the front and rear.
