Description

Lodge 1 in Talbot Memorial Park is a 2-storey building constructed from coursed grey rock-faced stone with pale stone dressings, topped with a replaced slate roof. It features a plinth with dressed chamfered coping. The front, which faces south, has a gable end with two windows that are 2-light, have square heads, moulded surrounds, and continuous hoodmoulds, and contain late 20th century glazing. There is a diagonal buttress at the outer angle and quoins at the inner angle, both of which rise to kneelers. A narrow string course runs beneath a triangular pediment that has stone coping. Prominently displayed in the gable is a pale stone roundel featuring the Port Talbot coat of arms and the inscription 'Borough of Port Talbot'.

The entrance is located on the east side, facing the main avenue of the park. It has a central doorway with a moulded surround, square head, and hoodmould, which contains a replaced panelled door. To the right of the door is a canted bay window with a hipped tile-covered roof and replaced late 20th century glazing. Above this bay window is a 3-light window with a hoodmould, similar to the other windows. To the left of the entrance is a stepped side stack, which may be false or truncated, with a voluted stone block at each step. The north end of the building mirrors the south front but features an end stack rising from the apex of the pediment and lacks the roundel. The outer west side has a small lean-to with a single light window to the left and a centrally-placed 2-light window on the upper storey.

Access to the interior was not available at the time of inspection on October 25, 1999.
