Description
This is an ornate cast iron milepost located near the entrance to Margam Park. It is painted white with black lettering and detail. The milepost features a square base that supports a rear upright with a pointed arched head, complete with mouldings, imposts, and a keystone. In front of the base, there is a low domed section with a round-headed front face. Above this, two tall faces with pointed arched heads are set at a 45-degree angle to each other, and the arches have raised mouldings.
On the underside of the rear arch, the milepost reads 'Bridgend District'. The angled faces indicate directions, with one side reading 'To Pyle 3' and the other 'To Neath 9'. Beneath the round arch, the lettering states 'London 186'. The square base features a raised border that includes the words 'Margam Parish' in relief. Additionally, a raised tablet at the bottom of the milepost displays the year '1841'.
