Description
The icehouse at Rheola House is a rectangular masonry structure that is mostly underground, built into the sloping ground on its north side. It consists of two sections: a lower curved, battered sub-structure that forms the main underground chamber, and a narrower low rectangular vaulted structure above. The upper part is covered by a layer of earth with stone slates placed on top. Access to the main vaulted structure is through a narrow doorway, which previously had gates, located at the southwest end of the upper section. A short passage leads to the brick-lined chamber at the northeast end.
