Description

The Aberpergwm Aqueduct, built over the Neath Canal, features a cast-iron trough adorned with decorative side panels. These panels include half-columns of Roman Doric style positioned between five panels that have raised borders and quadrant-curved rebates at the corners. The design consists of two long panels alternating with three shorter ones. One side of the aqueduct displays the inscription 'NEATH ABBEY GLAMORGANSHIRE 183?' in raised letters at its center. The trough is supported by squared stone piers, with the southwest pier showcasing a finely worked curved front, likely similar to the other three piers. The northwest pier is overgrown, while the eastern piers have been altered to accommodate a parallel road bridge. The two eastern piers are topped with tall square caps. Additionally, there is a stone-cobbles spillway on the downstream side.
