Description
Blaengwrach Farmhouse is a single-storey farmhouse built from rubble, positioned end on to the slope and formerly limewashed. It features a metal sheet roof with red brick chimney stacks at each end. The front has four bays with blocked windows: one to the left of the off-centre entrance and two to the right. There is a 19th-century lean-to porch that has been raised and also has a metal sheet roof; the main doorway has a Tudor dripmould. The upper end wall includes one window to the right, while the rear has an added lean-to on the right. The lower end has a window on each floor to the left, with the lower window featuring a slate dripstone, a tiny loft window to the right, and a door at the end of the lean-to.
Originally, the farmhouse had a two-unit direct-entry layout that was quite grand, as both the outer room and the hall were heated. The central stairs seem to have been an early addition, although they have since been altered. Surviving 17th-century features include five stop-chamfered beams, quarter-round moulded door surrounds, and one three-light diamond mullioned window. The fireplaces have been altered, and there is a stepped chimney breast at the downhill end. The roof has a five-bay collar truss design, and the attic floor over the hall has been lost.
