Description
Penrice Castle Dovecote is located on the southeast side of Penrice Castle, positioned against the external face of the curtain wall, though it is not part of the wall itself. Constructed from stonework that matches the castle, the dovecote has a conical exterior and a slightly bottle-shaped interior, tapering from an internal diameter of about 2.5 meters to about 0.6 meters. The doorway is oriented to the south and features a rebate for a missing door. Inside, there are 15 rows of nestboxes, but there are no access openings through the wall, suggesting that the birds likely entered from the top.
