Description
Gwernigron Dovecote is a notable dovecote constructed from local hammer-dressed uncoursed limestone, featuring selected larger stones and quoins, along with window and door dressings. The structure is square with four identical gables, each adorned with a deeply projecting corbel at the base and stepped copings.
Each gable has a two-light opening that allows access for the pigeons. The entrance door is located on the west side, positioned approximately 2.5 meters above the ground.
The lower section of the dovecote appears to have been an undercroft, which includes a door on the south side and small windows on the other three sides. The window openings on the east and west sides have grooves in the stonework, indicating they were likely glazed.
There are pigeonholes carved into the stone on all four sides, arranged in 13 rows, totaling about 400 holes. While the dovecote seems to have originally included an undercroft, there are no remaining traces of any flooring above it or of any potence.
