Description

The former coach house, stables, and outbuildings to Staverton and Southcroft is a Grade II listed structure. The earliest part is a small gable-ended barn made of rubble, located at the roadside and topped with a slate roof. It features ventilation slits, one of which has reused garden wall balusters as jambs. This barn is said to have been used as a chapel at one time. On the north courtyard side, there is a 4-centred dressed stone doorway inscribed with "lh 1779," and to the left, a 3-light timber frame window. The left end of the barn is made of rubble and has a brick-lined semicircular opening, possibly a bee bole.

Running north from the road is a 2-storey, 2 + 3 bay brick coach house and stables. It has brace plates on the gable end and a whitewashed eastern side, with an undulating slate roof. To the left, there is a tall arched coach entrance featuring voussoirs and a keystone, dated "TMH 1786." Above this entrance are boarded loft doors, and the lower stable doors have camber-headed voussoirs with patterned ventilators.

To the right is a Victorian asymmetrical 2-bay brick range that is contemporary with the cross range to Staverton opposite. This range has a stepped cornice, with the left-hand bay set back and featuring a keystone above the coach entrance. The right-hand bay has an open-pediment treatment on the gable. It retains a winch over a tall arched loft opening with double doors and freestone quarter round hinge sockets, along with a tripartite cross-frame window below. The inner sides of the courtyard display similar brick detailing, including open pediments and a brick chimney at the angle.
