Description

Fulton House is a large H-plan building constructed mainly of brown brick, designed to match pre-existing buildings by the same architects. The central block features a glazed curtain wall with 17 bays and is taller than the wings. The ground floor is set forward and has a full-width first-floor terrace, along with a cantilevered canopy over the entrance doors. Each side of the central block has projecting wings with a band of glazing at ground floor level, while the first and second stories have large areas of glazing with balconies on the first floor. The side elevations are three stories high, containing 20 windows and recessed doorways with cantilevered canopies. The rear of the side blocks mirrors the front. At the rear, facing Mandela House, the central block is primarily faced with buff bricks and features small windows similar to the side elevations.

The interior of Fulton House is largely unaltered, retaining original wood paneling, glazed doors with original door furniture, and light fittings, along with some contemporary stained glass. The low ground floor has wood-paneled walls. The main dining hall has a two-storey height, with smaller dining rooms at each end. The main dining hall includes a glass screen wall set forward from cylindrical pilotis, providing access to a terrace. The upper level of the rear wall is wood-paneled and features a broad opening to the stair hall, which has a cantilevered double stair and a glass balustrade. The pilotis are visible, and the west end showcases "Rape of Europa" by Ceri Richards. On the top floor, there are three smaller dining rooms in the central block, while the side blocks contain smaller dining rooms or bars.
