Description
Swiss Cottage in Singleton Park is a 19th-century wooden-framed building with horizontal boarding and a slate roof, featuring red brick chimneys. The shallow-pitched slate roof has two red brick chimneys on the west side. The south gabled front showcases very deeply overhanging eaves supported by wooden brackets and scalloped bargeboards. At the gable apex, there are inscriptions reading "1826" and "LIBERTE ET PATRIE." Below, a band of scalloped decoration is found beneath a three-light window, along with a panel that has scalloped banding and a painted inscription that says "LEBE SO DAS DU WIEDER LEBEN MAGST." There is also a five-light window with a scalloped band below it, and scalloped posts at the corners.
On the sides, the eaves extend over first-floor pierced balconies that are supported by brackets and posts. On the west side, there is an enclosed open-traced staircase and a small balcony at the rear. The ground floor features two two-light windows with projecting scalloped surrounds, and smaller windows are located at the rear of the steps. On the east side, the balcony is fretted at the front and boarded at the rear, with stairs that project to the rear. The ground floor has a two-light window on the right, with an inscription above it in German. Steps lead up to an arched doorway, accompanied by a three-light casement window and a smaller square window towards the rear.
