Description
The fountain in the Botanical Gardens at Singleton Park is an octagonal lead basin set on a stone plinth. It is dated 1773, but the current arrangement featuring a central group of cherubs is modern; the fountain originally stood in Swansea Castle Gardens. Each side of the basin has vertical bands of classicising relief decoration, with two lugged panels that display the date along with low reliefs of female figures, swags, shells, and other motifs. Between the panels, there is palmette decoration and the initials ‘LC’. The modern central group consists of three cherubs.
