Description

Sketty Hall is a wide Georgian stucco building with a south front that features two main sections. The eastern part is three storeys high with a basement and was originally two storeys with a central gable. The later western part is two storeys tall with a higher frontage and has a slightly advanced and bowed end. The building has a pitched slate roof behind parapets, with band courses and tall chimney stacks.

The right block has five bays, with breaks at the outer bays. It features small pane sash windows, some of which have been replaced, and twin ground-floor splayed bays. Carved heads are set over the windows, which were formerly swagged, and there are balustraded aprons to the outer bays. A cantilevered balcony that was once present in the central bay has been removed. The left block has six bays with taller windows in plain reveals, and framed windows in the second and fifth bays, where cantilevered balconies have also been removed. Some balustraded aprons and head blocks are present over the first-floor windows.

A large balustraded Doric porch with twin columns and a half-glazed door is located at the centre of the frontage. A large glazed lantern with a weathervane sits above the rear range. The northern entrance front is two storeys high, with all ground floor openings boarded up at the time of inspection. A large polygonal bay on the left has a central first-floor window, flanked by other windows, but the balcony has been removed. To the right of this bay is a seven-window block, and a central advanced three-window bay has lost its balconies on the outer first-floor windows. The ground floor features a closed porch with Tuscan pillars and double-leaf entrance doors with an overlight, along with a group of cartouches above the porch. A one-window bay to the left has a balustraded apron over the first-floor window, and the first-floor windows of the two-window bay to the right also have balustraded aprons.

The interior has been altered and subdivided for conversion to offices after 1945. It includes a two-storey entrance hall with a dentil cornice, open-string stairs, and a landing with iron balusters. Several other rooms retain cornices, although some ceilings have been obscured by acoustic tiles or suspended ceilings, and there are fireplaces and original doors present.
