Description
The dock at the former White Rock Copperworks and the quay wall to the north are recognized as an important industrial site from the early 18th century. They are part of the stone quays and tidal basins that lined the lower River Tawe by the early 19th century. Historical records indicate that a dock existed here as early as 1737, used by Thomas, 2nd Baron Mansel, for shipping coal, which was transported via the 'Great Coal Road' from the collieries at Llansamlet. Over the years, the stonework has been altered, and in the late 20th century, the area was renovated when the ruins of the copperworks were landscaped.
