Description
Hafod Limekiln is a limekiln dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It features a tapering stone rubble wall that measures 5.8 metres square. On the eastern side, which faces the canal, there is a discharge opening with a segmental brick arch. There is also a possible further opening in the southern wall and a vertical, full-height chase in the northern wall, which was used to bond with a lateral retaining wall. A copper slag charging bank was formerly located against the western and part of the northern elevations. As of 1978, it is one of only three remaining limekilns along the Swansea Canal.
