Description
The building known as the Barn, Byre and Stable at The Darren is situated on a sloping site, with the stable and byre located at the higher end and the barn stepped down at the lower end. It is constructed of random rubble, featuring openings beneath timber lintels, and has a roof made of corrugated asbestos-cement.
At the uphill end, the stable includes a stable door and a boarded-up window to its left. To the right of the stable is the byre, which has three doorways and a loft opening above the central door. The barn has a cart-passage doorway that is offset to the left, equipped with double boarded doors and a ventilation slit to the left. There is a recently added lean-to against the right gable end. The left gable end features a loft opening leading to the stable, which is covered by a boarded shutter. Additional outshuts have been added to the rear of the building.
The building was not inspected at the time of the survey in January 1998.
