Description
The barn at Pencelli Court is a long, two-storey structure built of stone rubble, which was previously limewashed, and features a corrugated roof. The right section of the barn is older and constructed with timber framing, covered in weatherboarding on a stone plinth. This section has a central double doorway with a hood, flanked by smaller wood-framed openings with mullions and a stable door that has a slightly battered stone lintel. The rear of this section includes two tiers of small rectangular ventilation holes and opposing double doors, as well as two tiers of ventilation slits and a pitching door in the right gable end.
The left section, which is newer, has a continuous roof and is entirely made of stone. It features double boarded doors at both the front and rear, with ventilation slits in the adjoining bay to the right and matching slits at the rear. There are also small rectangular ventilators in the gable end facing the road.
The roof structure consists of collar and tie pegged trusses and three rows of trenched purlins. The right section has stone kerbs for the threshing floor, topped with timber coping and supported by unusually tall struts reaching up to the hood. The left section has four bays with similar trusses and kerbs but lacks wood and has a flag threshing floor.
