Description

Dyffryn is a two-storey house built in an L-plan, featuring a main range with a higher wing to the left and a shallow lean-to to the right. The building is constructed of rubble stone walls that are pebble-dashed and painted white, topped with slate roofs; the main range has a gabled roof while the wing has a hipped roof. There are tall roughcast stacks on the right, left, and rear of the wing, along with a shorter stack at the front right of the wing.

The front of the house has a doorway on the right, which is set within a gabled porch attached to the main range. This doorway features a stop-chamfer surround with a Tudor head engraved with '1634 WM'. The door itself is studded with strap hinges and has a door knocker also inscribed with '1634 WM'. To the left of the doorway, the main range has two windows: a 2-light casement window for the hall and a fixed light window for the original service room, both in earlier openings on the ground floor. Above, there is a 20th-century 3-light casement window on the upper left and a 19th-century horned sash window in the upper center. The wing has two windows on the ground floor with 20th-century 2-light casements, and above, there are 19th-century horned sash windows.

To the left, there is a low, added 1-storey projection. The left side wall of the wing contains 19th-century horned sash windows, with one positioned upper center and another offset to the left in the lower storey, along with a small window to the right in the lower storey. The rear wall of the wing features two similar sash windows in the lower storey, and the west side wall has similar windows as well.

Although not inspected during the survey in November 1997, it was recorded by Jones and Smith that the house retains a fireplace stair and a post-and-panel partition in the main range, as well as an 18th-century stair in the wing.
