Description

The front courtyard and boundary wall at Craig-y-nos is constructed of coursed red sandstone featuring an ashlar balustrade. It includes a gateway with tall gatepiers topped with rough caps and an iron gate adorned with spear finials and a reticulated design on the lower panel. A section to the west of the gateway is made of narrower coursed grey rubble with flat coping, indicating an earlier construction period. The front wall, which meets the northern courtyard wall at a right angle, creates an entrance that is elevated at the gateway to form lamp piers with cast iron lamps. It has double iron gates and concrete coping. To the left, the wall extends beyond the courtyard to enclose the garden next to the theatre. To the right, it connects with the service range and, further right, it borders the former Winter Garden area, which includes a bothy and frameyard, and features a small pointed arched doorway.
