Description

Ongur Uchaf, also known as Rhongyr Uchaf, is a tall farmhouse with a Georgian-style front, built of stone that is rendered and painted at the front, while the sides remain unpainted. The building has three storeys and features a nearly symmetrical facade, although the uphill third, which incorporates an earlier house, is blank. The main section has a three-window range of small pane windows, which were formerly sash windows but have since been replaced. The roof is covered with Welsh slate and has rendered end stacks.

To the left of the center is a moulded wooden porch supported by posts, with stone flags and steps leading to a panelled boarded door. Attached to the right is a former farm range constructed of rubble, featuring yellow brick segmental arches over the ground floor openings; this area has been converted for use as storage and office space. At the rear, the roof slopes down at a slightly flatter pitch over an extension that includes a ground floor and basement, with two very tall stacks made of dressed stone rising from the roof. The rear elevation is made of unrendered rubble, with dressed stone surrounds framing the openings. On either side of the central door, which has an overlight, are large 16-pane sash windows, and the basement windows feature cambered heads. The house is set against fields at the back, while the front has a divided walled garden that includes ornamental gatepiers topped with urn finials and iron gates.

Inside, the farmhouse is said to have a central hall with an oak staircase that rises gently before making a sharp turn to the left at the landing. The former kitchen, located to the right, features a large open fireplace with a bread oven, a ceiling with a cross beam, and exposed joists from the room above, which has wide oak floorboards. The interior also retains panelled window shutters.
