Description
This building at 8 Ship Street is a shop with living accommodation above, dating from the 19th century. It has three storeys and an attic, with a stucco façade featuring four window bays. The hipped slate roof has deep eaves and two semi-circular dormers with small-pane top-hung casements. The first and second floors have 12-pane sash windows set in openings with slightly cambered heads. The ground floor boasts an attractive 19th-century double shop front with a central entrance flanked by four three-quarter columns and a continuous entablature. The right-hand side facing Bell Lane is roughcast and includes a three-light shop window on the ground floor. There may be a wing of an earlier timber-framed structure at the rear, similar to that of No. 9. The building is said to retain fielded panelled doors, chimney pieces, and other features.
