Description
17 Ship Street features an early to mid 19th century facade made of brick, which is now colourwashed. The building has three storeys and three windows. It is topped with a slate roof that has flanking stacks. The window openings on the first and second floors are adorned with gauged brick arches and reveals. The second floor has 12-pane sash windows (four panes over eight), while the first floor has 16-pane sash windows. A string course runs along the second floor at the sill level.
On the ground floor, to the right, there is a 19th century shop front that includes pilasters and a fascia with brackets. The central doorway is part glazed and features a rectangular overlight, set back between canted shop windows that have colonettes and corner brackets. To the left, there is another doorway with a rectangular fanlight that has radiating tracery and flush-panelled reveals, along with a plate glass window at the left end.
Inside, the ceiling beams have been plastered and papered over.
