Description

7 Wheat Street is a former house that has been converted into an office with accommodation above. The building has three storeys and four windows facing Wheat Street, featuring a roughcast exterior and a slate roof. The first and second floors have small-pane sash windows, with the first-floor windows being squarish and consisting of six panes, while the ground floor has 12-pane sashes.

The ground floor features a central doorcase with a pediment and pilasters, a semi-circular fanlight with interlacing tracery, and a six-panelled door. There are cornices on either side of the doorway, which may have originated from a former shopfront. On either side of the entrance, there are modern recessed display windows with three arched lights, and there is an additional doorway to the right.

Inside, there is a vestibule with a panelled door and a semi-circular headed arch. A notable 18th-century wooden staircase leads to the rear. The southwest room on the first floor has a ceiling beam and cornice, along with a fireplace featuring a lugged surround. The ground floor room to the left has a stone overmantel with pierced quatrefoils dating from around 1600 or earlier, a beam and cornice, and an archway to the rear with classical detailing. The fielded panelled doors add to the period character of the space. The ground floor room to the right also includes a period fireplace, and there is a cellar with rough beams.
