Description
Nos. 2 and 3 Wheat Street are three-storey buildings with a rendered front facing Wheat Street. They feature four windows and a slate roof with flanking stacks. The sash windows have plain reveals, with four panes wide on both the second and first floors, while the top floor has 12-pane windows and the others have 16-pane windows. The doorways are adorned with pilasters and entablatures; No. 2 has plain pilasters, panelled reveals, and a four-panelled door, while No. 3 features fluted pilasters, shallow reveals, and a six-panelled door with the top two panels glazed. The right side of No. 2 has a small sash window in the attic and a 16-pane sash window on the other three floors.
Inside, No. 2 has been modified for office use in the late 20th century but still retains a vestibule with a barrel vaulted ceiling, a glazed door, and a partition with stained glass. It also has an altered 19th-century staircase with turned newels and straight balusters, 19th-century door frames, and some panelled shutters.
