Description

Bridgend is a three-storey building with four windows that was formerly two houses. It is constructed of coursed rubble masonry and features a moderately pitched quarry slate roof with plain eaves and close verges. There are three stone stacks, with one centrally located on No 1 and a lateral stack at the rear left of No 3. The building has water tabling.

On the second floor, there are shallow six-pane sash windows set under the eaves. The second window from the right has been blocked and raised into a slate-hung gablet. The first floor features twelve-pane sashes, with two on the right that have had their lower glazing bars removed, and a modern sash window on the extreme left. All windows have stone lintels. No 3 has a similar sash window on the ground floor with shutter pintles, and there is a doorway to the left with a stone lintel and a modern door. No 2 has an unsympathetic modern shopfront. On No 1, there are two doorways to the left with stone lintels and a modern window to the right.

The side elevation facing Bridge Street has two windows on the second floor; the left window is blocked, while the right has a smaller two-light window with stone lintels. The first floor has a twelve-pane horned sash window on the right, also with a stone lintel. Former doorways flank a similar window offset to the right on the ground floor, now featuring modern twelve-pane fixed lights.

The canted side elevation facing Smithfield Street has a former doorway on the ground floor to the right with a stone lintel. There is a Victorian sash window on the second floor to the left and a similar window on the first floor with an adjoining doorway to the left. A stone staircase leading down to the street partly obscures a ground floor window.

Inside No 3, the hallway retains an arch with a depressed shape on pilasters.
