Description

The Old Saddler's is a building that underwent early 19th century rebuilding on an earlier core. It features a roughcast exterior over rubble stone, topped with a slate roof and lacking any stacks. The building has a bracketed eaves cornice and stands two storeys tall with a double fronted asymmetrical facade. The facade includes two four-pane sash windows on the upper floor and one on the ground floor to the right, all set in plain raised surrounds with slate sills. On the ground floor to the left, there is a 20th century plate glass canted bay window positioned on an earlier plinth. The entrance features a half-glazed door situated in a tent-roofed trellis porch, with the timber trellis sides having been cut back in the early 20th century.

The south end wall has a window, and there is a long rubble stone rear wing that is two storeys high to the north and single storey to the south. This wing has a rebuilt brick ridge stack and a hipped west end with a lean-to outshut. The north side shows a straight joint along the line of the chimney, a 12-pane sash window on the ground floor to the left, and a small four-pane window above. To the right, there is a small window and door with a four-pane window above, all featuring cambered brick heads. The south side has three long windows that light the upper floor.

The rear wall of the house includes an outshut stair projection. Inside the main house and the rear wing, there are signs of older structures; specifically, in the rear wall on each side, there are long and heavy timber lintels set low, with the left one related to a now-blocked low entry to the rear wing.
