Description
Abbey Mill House is a house that underwent early 19th century remodelling of older structures. It is built of squared rubble with tooled-and-margined quoins and cut dressings, topped with a graduated stone slate roof featuring stacks that have been rebuilt in white brick. The main part of the house is two storeys high and has three symmetrical bays. The central entrance consists of a six-panel door within a late 19th century porch that has timber posts, latticework sides, and a stone hood. Above the porch is a 12-pane sash window. The other windows are 16-pane sashes, all featuring cut lintels and slightly projecting sills. The house has coped gables on moulded kneelers and end stacks. To the right, there is a lower earlier bay that includes a 20th century garage door with a six-pane fixed window in a rough stone surround above, and a rebuilt right end stack. The rear elevation displays an 18-pane sash stair window.
Inside, the house features doors with six fielded panels, a dog-leg open-string staircase with stick balusters, moulded newels, and a moulded handrail.
