Description
Castle House is a mid to late 19th century house constructed from coursed blue lias stone, featuring a slate eaves roof and stone end stacks. The building is two storeys high and has a three-window range that is closely spaced. It has paired painted timber brackets under the eaves. The windows are adorned with sandstone voussoirs and slate sills, including three large 16-pane cambered-headed sashes on the upper floor and two tripartite 4-8-4-pane cambered-headed sashes on the ground floor, along with a central door. The glazing bars have been removed from the centre sash of the ground floor right window. The door is set within a painted corniced doorcase that has heavy brackets supporting the cornice and incised panels on the piers. The reveals are panelled, and there is a 20th-century door with an overlight.
The house features carved bargeboards on the end gables, a rendered west wall, and a long northeast rear wing. It is marked on the 1889 Ordnance Survey map.
