Description

The Bunch of Grapes Inn is a 17th-century building featuring colourwashed roughcast walls and a steep-pitched slate roof with stone stacks at the ends. The inn has a large two-storey façade with three widely spaced 12-pane sash windows, which have late 19th-century raised stucco labels and slate sills. The ground floor includes a larger sash window on the left, a central four-panel door with arch-headed upper panels and a blocked overlight, and an early to mid-20th-century five-pane bow window on the right. The ground floor windows do not align with those above. At the southwest, there is a rear wing that is rendered and has a stone end stack.

Inside, the inn boasts a fine scarfed cruck oak roof that extends for five bays in the front range and an additional four bays in the rear. It features pegged collars and double purlins. There is a full-height dog-leg stair located behind the front range, which has a heavy closed and pulvinated string, turned balusters, and a moulded thick rail. The first floor includes one four-panel door, with others reportedly covered over. The ground floor showcases heavy cross beams throughout both the front and rear ranges, along with a large timber-lintel fireplace at the back of the rear range. The fireplaces in the front range have been altered, with the northern fireplace featuring blank window recesses on either side.
