Description
The Inner Courtyard Ranges at Dynevor Castle (Newton House) are one and two-storey structures built with random rubble, which was formerly rendered, and feature some freestone dressings around the openings. The roofs are modern tiled, with the eastern range having a slate roof and four chimney stacks. The eastern range was remodeled around 1857, resulting in higher eaves and a shallow roof pitch. It includes six simple sash windows on the upper floor, tall three-light sashes on the ground floor, and five doorways with cambered heads. Inside, there is a first-floor corridor with depressed arches and keyblocks.
The northern range features four hipped dormers set in a steep tiled roof, with a stack at the front eaves, where the base of the chimney is at the ridge. It has simple 19th-century sashes under the eaves, large timber cross windows on the ground floor, and two doors with herringbone boarding. The interior retains massive A-frame roof trusses and a substantial chimney breast.
The western range has a higher two-storey central section with three tall sash windows, along with various sash windows and doors with fanlights in the outer sections. There is a laundry extension at the rear of the western range, which includes a brick vault and chimney.
The southern range is mostly blank, featuring one hipped dormer and a cemented arched entry. It has a steep modern tiled roof with four hipped dormers on the south side, one mid-roof chimney stack, two glazed lunettes, and a tall doorway leading to the stables, which retain original carved stalls and loose boxes inside.
