Description
The Tower Hotel, which includes the Courtyard Ranges, is a building designed in a simple Italianate classical style. It is three stories high with an attic and features a symmetrical front that has five bays, all finished in scribed render. The building is accented with rusticated quoins, a dentil cornice, a painted brick plinth, and other classical details, including three-order pilasters that divide each bay. The roof is slate, and there are brick chimney stacks with neck bands.
The windows are sash style, with each bay containing paired windows that have flanking pilasters around their surrounds. The upper floor windows have bracketed cills, while the second floor features keystones. The first floor windows have round arched hoodmoulds, and the ground floor windows, which include marginal glazing bars, are round arched with keystones. A central porch with a pediment is supported by square piers and features a blank coat of arms and a castellated tower finial; the inner doors are half glazed. One of the sash windows in the right-hand bay has been converted into a panelled double door with a fanlight.
There are two pitched roof dormer windows, each with four grouped sashes. The rear of the building is constructed of rubble and includes some small pane sashes and a central cross range that steps down to two stories. This section includes Y Glorian, which has splayed bay windows. The former stable courtyard is rectangular and has attached ranges.
To the northeast, there is a rubble coach house with red brick dressings around the cambered openings. The northwest end is closed off by a rubble range that fronts Lleiniau Uchaf; the tall drive entry is advanced and features a cross gable with a loft door on the inner side. Steps lead up to the northwest range, which extends along half the length of the courtyard.
Inside, the porch has a ceiling rose and a dentil and bracket cornice adorned with acanthus and rose ornamentation. Broad half glazed double doors open into a hall that is divided by a segmental panelled arch. The late Victorian openwell staircase features an octagonal newel, carved tread ends, turned balusters, and dado moulding in an 'in antis' style. A panelled recess, which was formerly a window, indicates the original rear wall of the building.
