Description
Aberwheeler House is a house made up of two ranges that meet at right angles, with the western range being the older part. The exterior features mostly axe-dressed uncoursed stonework that is painted white, with some areas rendered. Parts of the house have been rebuilt in brickwork and extended to the north, which is also painted white. Both ranges are of equal height and have slate roofs with tile ridges. Only two chimneys remain: one directly opposite the entrance and another at the north gable of the north-south range, both featuring square brick stacks. Additionally, there is a modern chimney with a metal flue on the west gable of the older wing.
The windows are a mix, primarily with modern frames, but those on the west entrance side are in original or early openings. Notable features include a nine-pane sash window in a dormer gable on the north side, a horizontally-sliding sash window on the east entrance side, and a 16-pane sash window in a gable, along with another in a dormer on the garden side. The main entrance, located in the north-west angle, has a boarded and nail-studded door with a porch roof. The north gable also features ten tiers of pigeonholes.
The earlier wing retains substantial timber framing. Inside the main range, there are moulded and stopped beams that date from the 17th century, along with joists that are laid flat.
