Description
Blaenycwm is a two-storey farmhouse and byre built from rubble stone, featuring a slate roof with stone end stacks. Originally thatched, the roof was raised slightly during a 20th-century renewal. The house has a double-fronted design with renewed casement windows: one pair to the centre left, one to the right above, one to the left, and one to the right below, along with a centre half-glazed door. The rear wall includes a door, a window, and a curved projection on the right for a winding stair. The south end has a small loft window added in the 20th century.
The byre on the left has a tin roof and painted rendered walls, featuring a door, a window, a blockwork addition, another window, and a door. The lower end wall and part of the rear have been rebuilt in blockwork.
Inside, the layout consists of two rooms, with a massive fireplace beam in the south room and stone jambs that are chamfered. There are four large beams on the ground floor and a small fireplace in the north room. A stone winding staircase in the southwest corner appears to have been added later, consisting of 12 steps and a small window in the stair tower to the south. The house features massive cruck trusses, with one against the main chimney and another at the partition, with their feet visible in the lower walls. These are said to be full crucks, not scarfed, and include morticed collars and apex pieces, along with heavy purlins. The partition is made of thick in-and-out oak planks. The byre contains three scarfed cruck trusses with pegged collars and pegged apex pieces, and there is a blocked door at the upper end leading into the house.
