Description

Nantylaethdy is a one-and-a-half-storey farmhouse with a lower attached byre, built of rubble sandstone with slate roofs. The house, situated at the higher end, has a single gable-end stack. On the west side, the house features an inserted doorway that has since been blocked, a window opening illuminating the hall, and a window with two diamond mullions lighting the parlour. The rear wall on the east side has window openings with hood moulds. To the right is a gabled stair projection with a window featuring two diamond mullions, a centrally located 19th-century sash window, an opening within a half dormer, and a ground-floor window with two diamond mullions lighting a former pantry. A window is also present in the south gable end of the attic.

The byre has one window on its west side, lighting a passage to the house’s front door and formerly a doorway. At the rear are a doorway on the left and a window opening on the right, both under timber lintels. Above, a raking dormer is located right of centre, the east roof slope being made of corrugated iron.

Inside the house, there is a hall and two small inner rooms separated by a partially surviving post-and-panel partition featuring two segmental door heads. A fireplace is present with a large chamfered bressumer; to the right of the fireplace is a stone stair accessed through a doorway. The cross beams are chamfered and have run-out stops. The byre consists of four bays with upper crucks. A stone dividing wall separates the passage from the rest of the byre.
