Description

Pant-y-Paerau is a 17th-century house with an attached byre, extended in the 19th century. The original house, said to be one-and-a-half storeys high, runs north-south and is built of random rubble sandstone with battered walls and a slate roof. It has a steeply pitched roof and a chimney stack at the lower end. A byre is attached to the lower end of the house, and a rubble-stone lean-to is attached to the west side. A 20th-century doorway and a 19th-century doorway with a segmental stone head are present. The gable end of the byre features a triangular breather below the apex and a loft opening with a timber lintel and dripstone. An inserted window is visible in the east wall.

Behind the original house is a parallel two-storey wing dating back to the 19th century, connected by a low link. The wing and link are built of rubble stone with dressed quoins and slate roofs, with end stone stacks on the wing. The link has, on its north side, a Tudor-headed doorway with a boarded and ribbed door and a small two-light casement window above. The wing’s east side displays three two-light casement windows in the upper storey, each set beneath a small gablet; the central window is narrower. The lower storey has two larger cross windows set beneath stone lintels. The property was not accessible at the time of resurvey in Autumn 1997.
