Description
Cwm Cynwal is a farmhouse constructed from colourwashed rubble stone, topped with a tall and steep corrugated iron roof, which is said to have thatch beneath it. The building features end chimneys, including a massive square roughcast stack at the downhill end and a smaller rendered brick stack to the right. The entrance is located off-centre to the right. To the right of the entrance is a horned 4-pane sash window, while a 9-pane window is situated to the left, accompanied by a small fireplace window further left. There is also a tiny 4-pane window under the eaves to the left of centre. The uphill gable end has a blocked door, as does the downhill end, which previously led to a byre that has since been rebuilt. At the rear, there is a lean-to rubble dairy with two windows, and the rear roof pitch of the house may have been raised. The right end wall is whitewashed and features a loft window in what was once a door.
The byre is positioned at a lower level to the left, constructed from rubble stone and covered with a corrugated iron roof. It has two 20th-century iron windows and a broad door in the middle, with another door to the left.
Inside, there are half-timbered partitions. The kitchen, located to the left of the cross-passage, includes a broad fireplace with a chamfered and stopped oak lintel. There is a blocked entry to the byre to the left of the fireplace. The kitchen features a beam and half-beam, along with some square ceiling joists. The building retains two pairs of scarfed crucks, with their feet visible at floor level. Simple timber stairs provide access to the dairy located behind the kitchen. To the right of the passage is a small parlour that has two beams. A full investigation of the roof trusses was not possible during the inspection in January 1999.
