Description
The roadside limekiln at Castle Quarry is approximately 7 meters in diameter and about 4 meters in height, constructed from rubble limestone. It extends from higher ground, with a path leading from the road to the top. There are two access archways positioned nearly opposite each other, both angled towards the road. These archways feature corbelled vaults with a span of about 2.5 meters, crafted in neat rubble stonework that tapers to a shallow point. The working openings at the base of the kiln are not visible. The top of the kiln is overgrown, but a depression in the surface suggests an internal diameter of about 3 meters at the top.
