Description
Snifters, located at 64 Rhosmaen Street, is a three-storey retail building dating from around 1825. It features four window openings and has roughcast walls built on a rubble base. The roof is gently pitched and covered with slate, complemented by a cavetto eaves cornice.
The second floor has shallow upper sashes with nine panes in each window, and there is a continuous sill band. The first floor showcases twelve-pane sash windows. A modern hanging sign is positioned at the center of the building.
On the ground floor, there is a continuous moulded cornice above the shopfronts, with a plain fascia. The shopfront is enhanced by good fluted Ionic half columns at both ends and in the center, with an additional column flanking the entrance to Snifters. The left end of the shopfront has a recessed entry, leading to a three-light shop window with plain stallrisers. The central entrance to Snifters is canted, featuring a half-glazed door with a moulded panel and a tilting rectangular fanlight above a mosaic sill. The single-light shop windows have sinuous heads and turned glazing bars, with chequered tile stallrisers. To the right, there is a domestic entry flanked by columns, with panelled reveals and a half-glazed door that has small panes over moulded panels, topped with a plain rectangular fanlight.
