Description

The Sir Arthur Stepney Memorial, located in Old Road Cemetery, is a bronze sculpture created around 1910. It depicts Christ Crucified on a tall, tapering stone shaft. The memorial features a stepped square base with inscriptions dedicated to Sir Arthur Cowell Stepney (1834-1909) and other members of the Stepney family. At the foot of the octagonal shaft, there is an inswept plinth with a base moulding and a moulded cap. The crucifix itself is finely modelled and bears the signature "A G Walker."
