Description

28 Commercial Row is a two-storey building dating from the 19th century, originally comprising two properties (Nos 27 and 27A/28) that have since been combined. The front is stuccoed; No. 27 retains its original unpainted finish, while the remainder has an imitation slate roof. The roof of the south-east rear wing is also imitation slate. The windows are 4-pane sashes set within moulded architraves. No. 27 features a timber oriel window on the first floor to the left, and a 6-panel door on the ground floor to the right. Nos. 27A and 28 have three first-floor sashes and a timber oriel window to the right; the ground floor has a sash window to the left, a 20th-century 4-panel door, and a large mid to later 19th-century shop front to the right. This shop front features plate glass windows framed by pilasters with rosettes, supporting a full-length fascia with a cornice. The fascia is inscribed in decorative lettering as “Moore & Co. Chemists”. A 20th-century door with overlight sits between the shop windows. The south end wall, facing Albion Square, has a similar canted oriel with a slate roof and three windows below.
