Description
25 and 25A High Street are two buildings that were originally part of No. 27. The structure, which is now a ground floor shop with a flat above (No. 25A), dates back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. The left block is three storeys tall, constructed of timber framing, and is finished with stucco that has masonry lining. It features a moulded cornice and a parapet that conceals a Welsh slated roof. The early 19th-century front has plat bands at the floor levels, with two sash windows that have glazing bars: a triple-light on the first floor and a single-light on the second floor, all set in reveals.
The right wing is two storeys, also timber-framed and stucco faced, with an eaves cornice supported by consoles and an old tiled roof edged with Welsh slate. The first floor has a sash window with glazing bars set in a reveal. The ground floor has a much-altered 19th-century shopfront that projects forward of the main block and is recessed below a jetty on the right. At the far right is the entrance to No. 25A, which occupies the two upper floors. The rear elevation features painted weatherboarded upper floors, with a projecting double-sashed oriel window on the second floor beneath a Welsh slated roof. There is also a rear outshoot that is partly timber-framed, with an old tiled roof and a Welsh slated lean-to.
