Description
The building is a hangar and annexes, constructed with a riveted steel girder frame measuring 162 feet 7 inches (49.53 meters) by 121 feet 4 inches (36.96 meters). It features a saw-tooth ridged roof with half bays at each end and five bays in between. The structure includes concrete-encased steel piers at the corners and reaching up to each gable apex, standing 59 feet 9 inches (18.21 meters) high, with steel uprights in between. The concrete infill reaches a height of 30 feet (9.14 meters), while the upper half is clad in corrugated iron. There is an iron gantry located around the lower part of the gables. The west front has a full-height opening that provides a clear opening of 160 feet by 40 feet (48.76 meters by 12.19 meters), which is closed by six large rolling steel doors. These doors have spaced steel plating that allows for the infill of gravel up to 20 feet (6.09 meters) to help absorb bomb fragments. Additionally, there is a rendered brick, two-storey, flat-roofed range along the north side.
