Description

27 and 27A are a pair of early 19th-century houses with a shop above, which were altered in the early 20th century. The building features a two-storey, two-window range for No 27 and a four-window range for Nos 27A and 28. The front is finished in stucco, unpainted for No 27, which has a slate roof and a rendered stack at the south end, while the other part has imitation slate roofs. The windows are 4-pane sashes set in moulded architraves. The doors for 27 and 27A are framed by pilasters with an entablature and cornice. No 27 includes a timber oriel window on the first floor to the left and a six-panel door on the ground floor to the right. Nos 27A and 28 have three first-floor sash windows and a timber oriel window to the right, along with a ground floor sash window to the left, a 20th-century four-panel door, and a large mid to late 19th-century shop front to the right. The shop windows are made of plate glass and framed by pilasters with rosettes, supporting a full-length fascia with a cornice that reads 'Moore & Co. Chemists' in decorative lettering. The door between the shop windows is from the 20th century and features an overlight. The south end wall facing Albion Square has a similar canted oriel with a slate roof and three windows below, along with a southeast rear wing.
