Description
The Centenary Memorial Standard Lamp is a notable structure featuring a granite base and an iron lampstand with three pendant lamps. The base consists of two steps leading up to a high plinth that has a chamfered lowest course. Above this, there is an incurving section adorned with raised scrolls on each side that read '1814-1914', along with a small cornice beneath a plain frieze. This is followed by a heavy bulging frieze and another cornice moulding. The base culminates in a battered pedestal, which has inscriptions on each side beneath the top cornice.
The ornate iron lampstand rests on claw feet and supports an ogee-curved square base that carries a column shaft topped with a finial, from which hang the three renewed iron brackets. Originally, the pedestal and the date numerals were polished to stand out against the rest of the structure, and the lettering was gilt.
