Description
83 and 85 Main Street are a pair of simple late Georgian houses that stand three storeys high and have two windows each. Their fronts are finished in painted stucco, and they feature a continuous slate roof that is divided by a central capping. The chimneys have been removed, except for a brick stack that is attached to the higher gable of No 87 on the left.
No 83 has an eaves band and features 4-pane sash windows with plain reveals and projecting sills. To the left, there is a well-designed inserted double shop front that includes a fascia and cornice that curves up and over an arched and splayed central doorway. The shop front also has panelled end pilasters topped with paterae, and a flush panel door. Inside the shop, there are cast-iron columns with foliage capitals and a boarded shop window to the right.
No 85 has a billet detail on the eaves band and features 2-pane sash windows with plain reveals and projecting sills. It also has small-pane Georgian style sashes that flank a 9-panel centre door, which is topped by a plain fanlight.
