Description
No. 22 is a detached house dating from the early 19th century, featuring painted stucco on a high plinth of tooled grey limestone. It has a slate close-eaved hipped roof and a two-storey, two-window front facing Hill Lane, with 12-pane sash windows. To the left of the house is a rendered round archway with a plain parapet, where the brick construction is visible due to fallen plaster. Inside the archway, there is a gate flanked by narrow railings on each side, which are also early 19th century. The railings have arrow-headed finials, and there are urn finials on the standards beside the gate, which features a scrolled mid-rail.
The left end wall of the house is rendered and has a 20th-century door, with the gable set back to the rear and a lean-to in the angle. There were formerly three steps leading up from the arch to a door in a narrow wooden boarded extension, which has a modern wooden boarded porch above. Originally, there was a six-panelled door with four fielded panels. The right end wall is roughcast and includes a hornless 12-pane stair-light, along with a 20th-century basement door and window. To the right of the house is a gabled rear wing with a rendered end chimney, featuring a loft light and two 12-pane hornless sashes. There are large late 20th-century additions at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
